Clean windows make a building look cared for. Here is how to get them clear without streaks.
Dirty windows make even a well-kept building look tired. Whether it is a home, an office or a shop front, clean glass makes a big difference to how people see your property.
1. Clean on a cloudy day
Direct sun dries the cleaner too fast and leaves streaks. Early morning or late afternoon is also a good time on sunny days.
2. Dust the frames first
Wipe frames and sills before you wash the glass. If you skip this step, the dirt from the frames will run onto the clean glass.
3. Use a simple solution
Warm water with a little dish soap or vinegar works well. Avoid using too much soap, as it leaves a film that attracts dust.
4. Use a squeegee
Pull it from top to bottom and wipe the blade after each stroke. Overlapping each stroke slightly helps avoid lines on the glass.
5. Finish with a microfibre cloth
Buff the edges and corners for a clear finish. Microfibre picks up the last drops without leaving fluff behind.
6. Leave high windows to the professionals
Working at height without the right equipment is dangerous. Professionals have ladders, harnesses and long-reach poles to clean safely at height.
